In this third edition, the main topic was the tourism as a transformative element in territories.

Brussels. 17-01-2020. Last 16th January, the 3rd Conference about Intermediate Cities took place at Aranda del Duero, Castille and Leon. It was hold by the city council and Tech Friendly and all the assistants highlighted the idea of tourism as a factor that can rewrite a different prospective of the territories.

Raquel González Benito -major of Aranda del Duero – and Olga Maderuelo -town councillor of Industry Promotion, Innovation, Tourism and Trade – were in charge of welcoming the people attending and extolled tourism as a praise tool of the potential territories and the huge importance of tourism in the worldwide economy.

In their case, they used Aranda del Duero as an example because it has the biggest underground wine cellar in Spain and the most visited wine route. For those reasons, it was declared European Wine Capital in 2020.

The intermediate cities are a nexus between the urban and rural areas, a key element in the implementation of the Agenda 2030 in a local scale and they are decisive factor in the achievement of inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable urban settlements according the ODS 11.

Precisely, that was the title of the first round table, Tourism and the ODS. Raúl Fernández – Culture and Tourism of Castille and Leon government deputy minister – and Victor Baldorrey – SEGITTUR’S Institutional Relationships director -, those two are beneficiaries in the NAPOCTEP project. The round table had Sergio Serna – Tech Friendly’s member/Director -.

After the ending of the second round table, Tourism and Citizens, Begoña García – the director of the Preservation of the Heritage’s Area in Santa Maria la Real Foundation and the third beneficiary in the NAPOCTEP project – and Pilar Pérez – Duero Douro project’s technician in the Efficient Habitat Cluster – went in depth about different projects that can make territory.

And, as the final part of the conference, Nagore de los Ríos explained what Slow Food is and its advantages and challenges. It is a philosophy based on travelling and visiting places from the point of view of the respect and the responsibility with the future and people, highlighting the idea of giving answers to the expectations and needs of the visitors by using marketing and communication.
