New entities become part of the network of Collaborating Entities of the Napoleonic routes project NAPOCTEP.
- One of the main objectives of the Interreg NAPOCTEP Project is thus fulfilled by creating the figure of the Collaborating Entity: to involve citizens, companies and municipalities, bringing the project closer to the territory.
- The network, made up of municipalities, associations, wine routes and all kinds of entities that wish to collaborate in the development of the project, already has 17 member entities, and it is expected that this number will continue to increase in the coming months.
Brussels, 17.02.2021. – The NAPOCTEP Project is successfully developing the initiative to establish the figure of Collaborating Entity that started just a few weeks ago.
This figure is created with the aim of having the support and citizen participation of the municipalities through which the routes pass, in order to enhance the heritage and contribute to the development of sustainable tourism that has a positive impact on the area of influence of the project.
The NAPOCTEP consortium, represented by its lead partner C.I.M. Regiâo de Coimbra and by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Junta de Castilla y León, and the interested entities have signed an agreement in which they commit to mutual cooperation, exchange of information, to feed a unified agenda of events, to cooperate in the dissemination of tourist resources and other activities of interest for the development of the project and its dissemination.
This major step in the project marks the start of the year 2021, which commemorates the Bicentenary of Napoleon’s death. The agreements have been possible thanks to the participation of citizens and the good reception of the proposal by town councils, associations, wine routes and other entities that have decided to offer their resources for the development of the project, as well as the inter-institutional and public-private collaboration.
Currently, the network of NAPOCTEP Project Collaborating Entities is made up of 17 entities in this first launch of the campaign, a number that, in addition to showing a great success of the proposal, is expected to continue to increase in the following months, especially with entities from the Portuguese area of influence of the project. Among them are the wine routes of Bierzo and Cigales, the Institute of Berciano Studies and the municipalities of Ponferrada, Astorga, Ciudad Rodrigo, Medina del Campo, Tordesillas, Alba de Tormes, etc. This network also has a specific space on the project’s website.
The project NAPOCTEP: Napoleonic Routes in Spain and Portugal is a project within the framework of the Interreg V-A Programme for Cross-border Cooperation Spain-Portugal POCTEP and aims to promote the cultural heritage of the Napoleonic period, through the creation of Napoleonic routes in an area that includes the central region of Portugal (Beiras and Serra da Estela) and the western provinces of Castilla-León (Salamanca, Zamora, Valladolid, León and Ávila), generating an innovative and attractive tourist product that generates economic activity and employment in an area affected by depopulation.
