Accelerathon is a methodology of the Finnova Foundation that aims to find solutions and funding, through an applied open innovation online system that brings together the innovative ecosystem in the environmental sector. The Accelerathon – NAPOCTEP was presented during the Green Week event on September 14th in order to provide a solution to the environmental and COVID-19 challenges, in line with the United Nations ODS and supporting programmes linked to sustainable tourism. In this sense, a process of “open innovation” was opened up for the presentation of potential innovative solutions by entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs and companies in general. After a selective process of these solutions, the winning idea will be announced in the webinar that NAPOCTEP will hold on 14 October in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities.

The award will consist of the publication of the winning solution on the NAPOCTEP project website and on the project’s collaborative social and networking networks. In addition, the solution will be disseminated to the stakeholders of the NAPOCTEP Itinerary, i.e. the hotel and catering sector, tour operators, public administrations, tourism and heritage companies, etc.

This call also puts into action different public and private actors to collaborate in the search for innovative solutions that can facilitate the local boosting of the economy against the COVID-19. In this way, possible innovative solutions will be presented so that they can be included in the itinerary and a “COVID-19-free” route can be adopted.

Sustainable tourism, the fight against climate change, energy efficiency and the circular economy are now even more demanding for the public sector and customers. Applied innovation must be encouraged, allowing companies to reduce operating costs and environmental impact.
